elcapture

A Proxyman alternative for Mac

HTTP debugging on macOS · updated November 2026

Proxyman did the thing everyone wanted: a web-debugging proxy that actually looks like a Mac app. It's good, and this isn't a page about it being bad. It's about the two places where elcapture makes a different call — the price model and how much lives behind a plan.

Where Proxyman and elcapture agree

Both are native macOS apps, not Java or a web view in a window. Both trust a local certificate to read HTTPS, both have breakpoints, map local and remote, header and body rewriting, and both keep your captured traffic on your machine. If you like Proxyman's feel, you'll be at home in elcapture.

Where they differ

Proxyman is freemium. The core is free, and the features people tend to reach for next — scripting, some of the automation and advanced matching — sit on a paid plan. That's a fair model, but it means the tool you evaluate isn't quite the tool you end up using.

elcapture puts the whole debugging toolset in front of you and charges once. Pro is $29 one-time, not a subscription, and it unlocks additions like the curated browser-fingerprint profiles rather than gating the basics. There's no account to create. If you'd rather own a tool than rent it, that's the difference.

Two features are elcapture's own: setting up an Android device — certificate and proxy, over adb, in one step — and sending requests from the built-in API client with a chosen browser's TLS fingerprint, which matters when a server behaves differently depending on who seems to be calling.
