Terms of Use

Beta · last updated 20 October 2026

These terms cover the free beta of elcapture. A full license agreement will replace them when paid plans launch; it will keep the promise in section 2.

1. Using elcapture

You may download elcapture from elcapture.com and use it on your own computers, for any lawful purpose, at no cost while it's in beta. You may share the unmodified installer. You may not sell, rent or redistribute modified copies, remove its license notices, or work around a license check once paid plans exist.

2. What stays free

Everything elcapture does today stays free for personal use, education, open-source work and organizations of up to 10 people. Paid plans will add new features; a feature that was free in a released version won't move behind a paid plan. When the Business plan launches, organizations of more than 10 people that use elcapture for their work will need a Business license. People who used the beta get Pro free for a year when it launches.

3. Only traffic you're allowed to see

elcapture installs a root certificate and can decrypt, record and change network traffic. Use it only on devices, apps, accounts and networks you own or have permission to test, and follow the laws that apply to you, including privacy and computer-misuse laws. You're responsible for how you use it. You can remove the certificate at any time: turn off System proxy, then delete elcapture Root CA in Keychain Access.

Captured traffic often contains passwords, tokens and cookies, and history stores it on your Mac. Protecting it is up to you: encrypt history, use Incognito for sensitive work, or delete history afterwards.

4. Beta software

The beta can have bugs, change without notice and lose data such as rules or history. Keep your own copies of anything important. Updates are signed, and the app installs only updates signed by us.

5. No warranty

elcapture is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.

6. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or business, and our total liability for the free beta is limited to USD 50. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer-protection law that can't be waived.

7. Open-source components

elcapture includes open-source software under its own licenses, listed in elcapture → Open-source licenses. Those licenses apply to those components.

8. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the current version is always at elcapture.com/terms, with the date at the top. Questions: hello@elcapture.com.
