Fiddler for Mac
If you came from Windows, you probably learned web debugging in Fiddler. On a Mac the story is messier: Fiddler Classic is a Windows app, and Fiddler Everywhere — the cross-platform one — wants an account and a subscription. elcapture is the native Mac tool that does the Fiddler job without either.
The Fiddler situation on macOS
Fiddler Classic, the one most people mean, runs on .NET and targets Windows. Running it on a Mac means a virtual machine or compatibility layer, which is a lot of overhead to read some requests. Fiddler Everywhere does run on macOS, but it's built around a signed-in account and a paid plan, and it syncs through that account by design.
What elcapture gives you instead
The same capabilities you used Fiddler for, as a native Mac app:
- See every request your apps and browser make, with decrypted HTTPS once you trust the local certificate.
- Breakpoints to pause and edit a request or response by hand — Fiddler's "set a breakpoint and tamper" workflow.
- Map Local, Map Remote and rewrite rules — the AutoResponder equivalent, plus header and status changes.
- A built-in API client to compose and replay — like Fiddler's Composer, next to the traffic.
- Android setup over adb in one step, and import of HAR and Charles sessions if you're bringing captures along.
No account, nothing synced off your Mac, and Pro is a one-time $29 rather than a subscription. Captured traffic stays local.
